Party General Secretary praises work of National Assembly staff

HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid a visit to staff at the National Assembly Office yesterday on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival, which falls on February 3.
Trong, who is also National Assembly Chairman, spoke highly of the great efforts made and the responsibility shown by officers and staff to complete their tasks last year.
He said that in 2010, the country had marked great achievements of National Assembly activities, such as the 7th and 8th sessions of the 12th National Assembly and meetings of the National Assembly Standing Committee that had left a good impression on voters and people throughout the country.
The success of Viet Nam's role as ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Chairman in the 2009-10 term also contributed to the international reputation of Viet Nam's National Assembly thanks to the efficient contributions of all officers and staff, Trong said.
He also reminded them to try to complete the 12th National Assembly term on a high and prepare for the upcoming 13th National Assembly election as well as the People's Council election.
Generals commended
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is also a politburo member, yesterday paid a Tet (Lunar New Year) visit to the General Department for Anti-Crime Police and the General Department for Homeland Security II.
He commended generals, officers and staff of the two departments for their achievements last year.
"You have greatly contributed to the country's political security, maintaining law and order and achieving rapid socio-economic development," Dung said. "Viet Nam's increasing prestige in the world is greatly attributable to the efforts made by the public security forces."
Regarding the forces' tasks for this year, Dung asked them to hold high the vigilance against dark plots and smash them in the bud in order to maintain a peaceful life for the people and protect the country's territorial integrity.
He also asked the People's Public Security Forces, including the Homeland Security Forces, to act as good advisors to the Party and Government in order to successfully mobilise the integrated strength of the whole political system in the fight against crimes.
Dung urged the police forces to train themselves to become an elite force that can foil any dark schemes of the enemy or counter-revolutionary forces.
The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Politburo member Nguyen Sinh Hung visited the Hai Phong Shipyard.
Hung expressed his appreciation of the great efforts made by leaders and workers at the Hai Phong Shipyard in overcoming difficulties and challenges in 2010.
He congratulated the Vinashin Group's efforts in restructuring its business to make Viet Nam's ship building industry stable and developed.
"In the last half of 2010 the shipbuilding industry scored a quite remarkable recovery, contributing to make the shipyard workers feel at ease in their work," Hung said.
On the occasion, Hung also visited the Nam Trieu and Pha Rung shipyards where he presented gifts to the workers.
Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong on Tuesday started a two-day visit to Ha Giang, a poor northern mountain province made up mostly of ethnic people.
To help people have a comfortable Tet, Trong presented them 2,500 packages of gifts, worth VND500 million (US$26,000).
Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, concluded her two-day New Year visit to the southern most province of Ca Mau yesterday.
During her stay there, Ngan presented gifts to social beneficiary households which had rendered great services to the homeland.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Director of its Commission for Communication and Education To Huy Rua, and Secretary of the Party Central Committee Ngo Xuan Lich visited and wished a Happy New Year to people in southern Binh Thuan Province, northern Hoa Binh Province and outstanding artists in Ha Noi. — VNS
